We just bought kayaks for Christmas.
Any advice on paddling techniques would be gratefully accepted. I have been out on the lake today, and came home a little frustrated.
The water was a little choppy from the ski boats whizzing by, and it was windy too.Kayaking...advice or tips?
Don't be frustrated-- you've only been out on the water for one day. Try to find a calmer venue for now while you're getting acquainted with your new boats, somewhere away from the boat wakes and on a day with no wind. And definitely go take a lesson. Besides getting essential safety training, you'll pick up a lot more technique working interactively with an instructor than trying to figure things out on your own.Kayaking...advice or tips?
Don't get ahead of yourself. Either attend a kayak school or take some lessons. Contact your national canoe/kayak organization and find the nearest club or group. If you insist on DIY, go to the library or bookstore and get books about the type of kayak you want to learn to paddle. Kayaking is a dangerous sport because the water environment can be dangerous. Learn all the safety rules...Wear a PFD. Don't kayak alone. Know your limits. Use flotation.
