i'm 14 years old and in the 8th grade
i've been a field goal kicker since i was 11
but this past season was my first year kicking in games
i only got the chance to kick 3 times though throughout our 6 game season and all of them were extra points
our kicker for the high school is leaving and i have been told that i will most likely be the varsity kicker next season
and i will only be a freshman
right now i'm under 100 pounds and around 5'3 or 5'4
so i'm pretty small
my max distance right now is about 42 yards
so i'm looking for some advice on what i need to do over this offseason in order to be a good varsity kicker for next seasonField Goal kicking advice/tips/drills?
Just practice long distance kicks.Field Goal kicking advice/tips/drills?
for accuracy try kicking from your max distance, that should improve your accuracy. look at how Matt Stover of the Baltimore Ravens kicks, he does a pose that not all kickers use, and hes one of the best kickers so just study him and you'll see improvement.
you dont need much more then 42 yards to be a high school kicker, and it doesnt really matter how big kickers, are, most NFL kickers arent exactly big guys, just keep doing what youre doing, to improve your leg strength and you will be fine.
kicking a field goal is pretty much same like kicking a soccer ball. you have to train your feet,, make it strong.
number 1.put on some pounds.like 50 or 60.more pounds.hit the leg press.in the weight room.and depending on wich way u kick.if its your left or right.use that 1 leg.to push the weight bar.or press.get some muscle on that leg.and remember.its in the hip also.the higher u can get that hip and leg in the air.the farther u can kick the ball.i played elem.and high school.and college.played rb.and kick offs.
