I'm 17, i never used to read books at all, up until this year when i had to read for my english class and i discovered it's not so bad. I've read a few books since then and i've grown to LOVE reading. I'm always looking for new books.
The problem is, since i never used to read before this year, i'm a little slower than others. I finished reading New Moon - Stephenie Meyer yesterday, it took me 3 days spending ALL my time on it (i couldn't put it down!) but some people can read it in 1 day, some say they've read it in 7 hours...i want to be able to read that fast lol. Will i be able to read that fast or is it too late because i never used to read when i was younger. Will it take me months or years to get there?
So i'm looking for some little activities i can do everyday/week to increase my reading speed. Oh and for some reason i read faster in my head than i do out loud, when i read out loud i don't remember what i've just read lol.Advice/tips to become a faster reader?
you could always just read more often, in any way. read the newspaper while you're eating breakfast.
for those that read fast, who cares? maybe they're just trying to show off and they don't even ENJOY the book when they've finished it so quickly. ask them what the book was even about. haha i'm just kidding but you get my point.
orals help. when doing them, look 5 or so words ahead, look up and say them without looking at your notes, then repeat. increase the word number.
take your time, enjoy the twilight series (because it's MAD!) and read at your own pace. =)Advice/tips to become a faster reader?
The more you read, the faster you'll be able to go.
Try to read without saying the words out loud. You'll go a lot faster that way. In fact, reading out loud puts a big limit to how fast you can possibly go, because you can think faster than you can talk.
I notice that if I don't pronounce the words in my head, I go faster. It also seems to lower my comprehension, though. Try it and see how you do.
I think I read slower than some people too. And I read all the time for school. Try making an effort to move along the words faster as you read. If you can still understand what you are reading, keep it up. Maybe after practicing reading fast like that you can train your brain to do it naturally.
i'm not too sure how you can learn to read fast. thought i think if you put enough time eventually you'll get faster and reading in your head is a lot easyer. though i'm one of those fastish readers so...
Just read more, you will get faster the more you read.
just get a bunch of younger kid books then read them aloud then u won't have to remember what u just
reading in your head is the way to go. practice will make you better. I think that some people are having a more visual experience in their heads while they read. So they are imaging more as they read. This will increase the pleasure, but slow down the progress. Reading for pleasure shouldn't be rushed.
I read aloud to get my head into it. There is something about sounds that can get my mind focused.
Some readers will use a card placed under the line you are reading to keep from jumping ahead and keeping you on track.
