My fiance and I are currently looking to move out of my mothers home. We live in a very nice block of flats at the moment, and one of the other flats is coming up for rental. I know the owner of the flat quite well, as does my mother. I emailed her detailing our interest, and she said she would be delighted for us to rent the flat. Mum also emailed the real estate agent asking how much the flat would be up for, which will be between $330-$360pw. I have a feeling it will probably be $360 because they are giving it a few reno's etc. We have budgeted for groceries, bills, etc. and if I get a job (interview this afternoon) we will easily be able to afford everything.
Anyway, my fiance and I are both 19. Currently I have no income aside from centrelink as I just got laid off, but I have a job interview this afternoon. My fiance recieves more centrelink than me (obviously this will all change when we move in, become defacto etc, because we haven't declared ourselves defacto as of yet) and he has a job, although he is paid in cash under the table. We have house sat before, so we will use my mother and these people as references.
My question is, how do I go about applying for the flat? Do I simply call the agent and say I'm interested in renting the flat? What happens after that? Forms etc? Just not quite sure what the process would be from there on, and would appreciate some advice.Tips and advice for first time renters?
I don't know how it works in the UK. I wish I could help you out. I know how it works in America. But, contacting the listing agent is the first step.
